Ever wonder what the top of a lighthouse looks like from the inside? Wonder no more.

This is the inside of the roof of the Sand Island Lighthouse tower. Notice the heavy iron supporting structure. If houses were built like this there roofs would not come off during hurricanes. There are a couple of smallholes in the roof but no major damage. The chimney stack is still in place. This stack once vented out the smoke from the oil lamps that illuminated the lense.
